I haven't wrestled with a bear, nor have I climb Everest. I haven't even been to most place in my home country the UK! But I have travelled to many far away places, created and caputured a lot of pictures for myself and others. I've made it my life's goal to be as creative as possible towards everything I endeavour. Outside of my morning cereal, that is.
I don't always make my bed, but lazy I'm not. On a deserted island, I'd go insane without pencils and paper, photography, music, my soulmate Lil and 'the Unit'. Storytelling, creative innovation, and visual voodoo – no matter the medium – make my heart go thump thump; and sharing all this online with the world, makes my soul sing. I'm fond of meerkats, and love that they'll stand constantly waiting for the next opportunity. I feel like a meerkat on most days. I can find humor in anything. But as I've been told....I need to work on that haha!
My studio is the world outside my door and the only equipment required is a camera and a willingness to look for new perspectives. Lighting comes courtesy of whatever is available; sun, sky, tungsten and neon – outside photographers we have access to it all. We are not restricted by subject or location, only by an obligation to record the world we see with honesty and compassion. More than just exotic locations and wild adventures, travel photography is about seeing our surroundings with fresh eyes and childlike enthusiasm.
I have won a few awards for my creative work in my time [sorry trumpet blowing], and I'm grateful for every single one of them, but I've always been unsure of whether I earned them or whether somebody I knew, or somebody who knew somebody I knew, rigged the jury. I was transparent long before it was hip to be so, and I believe deeply in teamwork, community, and collaboration. Let's be friends. Better yet, let's get greased up and wrestle a bear....C'mon!!!
I've worked as a freelance creative designer since 2005 and haven't looked back. I love waking up in the morning, dropping 'the unit' off at school - getting back, putting a fresh cup of coffee on my table and starting to sketch, create new ideas for happy clients. If you have a project you're interested in and fancy a cuppa to talk it through, pop over to 'The Design Guru' and say hi!
Since 2009 I have had the pleasure of being a part of a team with a good friend of mine Andrew Shutt as a creative wedding photographer under the name 'Smart Guys Studio'. We've had the privilege of having seen some beautiful venues on the behalf of our clients, we are always excited to doing more!
